Dyke Movie Night at New Parkway - A Benefit for BALA

In November, filmmaker Lisa Plourde curated a night of lesbian shorts at the New Parkway Theater, Dyke Night at the Movies 2, and donated the proceeds to BALA.

The films were funny, poignant and thought provoking. First Clue asks women “When did you know?” and the answers are a hoot. A Taiwanese lesbian’s world changes When Mom Visits her new but closeted life in America. Two German women are stuck in an elevator in a tongue-in- cheek film, Etage X.

Last but definitely not least was the half hour documentary, Presenting Joani: Queen of the Paradiddle, the story of Joani Hannan, a pioneering female jazz drummer who traveled the world in the USO during World War II and played alongside Marilyn Monroe in Some Like it Hot.
